Little Danny is all grown up. Still traumatized by those terrible childhood events at the Overlook Hotel, Dan has become a warped reflection of his angry drunken father. He's hesitant to use his "shine" lest it attract those hungry things from the hotel. Or worse. He struggles to remain sober and not turn into his old man, a fight he doesn't always win. As much as he'd like to put the past behind him, those old malevolent spirits are relentless and constantly hunting him. He knows they will never stop. Not even the sweet release of death can free him from his curse. That option was explored years ago and it only made matters worse. Even his imaginary friend Tony has abandoned him and gone silent, the one trusted voice that always got him through the worst of it. Dan Torrance is a man truly alone. He goes dark when he drinks, and at those times anything is possible. Probably not a good thing that he also carries a loaded gun everywhere he goes. Alcohol and firearms - a recipe for disaster in the wrong hands. Like his. The wise avoid this man; the foolish provoke him.
