People often look for adventure, usually in the wrong places. This is not the best explanation as to why a young lady would take flight from her moderately privileged life in a middle-class London suburb, taking with her nothing but a few pounds, her father's pocketknife, and a few of her favorite books, but her list of grievances with her soon-to-be former life would make this sentence much longer than it has already become.
Suffice it to say, on that night that marked the end of her former life, she did not hesitate once on her path down to the harbor. She had dressed appropriately for the voyage, and with a little coaxing and most of her money, she gained passage as the newest crew of the first vessel leaving port. Little did she know that the destination would be an island in the middle of the sea. Little did they know that she could not actually cook, though by the time the error was discovered, our ship had sailed too far to return to port.
This island is majestic place. I have met with natives and pirates alike. Although I can't say they have all been pleasant fellows, I have made a few new friends. The wildlife here is incredible. In some parts of the jungle, there are more animals than all of the farms north of London combined!
I hope this letter finds you well, father. Do not worry and do not ask why I left. Know only that I am in God's care. Please tell mother that I will return in good spirits and good health someday.
