Upon waking from a spirit trance, in which the totem animal from which his name was taken was revealed to him, Flying Squirrel was admittedly disappointed. He had been hoping for 'Great White Shark' or 'Black Panther' or 'Grizzly Bear,' or something similarly impressive. However, on reflection, he figures he's much better off than his friend and fellow shaman 'Stink Badger.'
After seeking guidance from the ancestors, he has come to realise that there is a great evil being perpetuated by those shamen who abuse the gifts granted them by the spirits, and that his earlier vow of pacifism must be overruled by the necessity of doing small evils in order to prevent much greater ones. Flying Squirrel will lead these blasphemous shamen back to the grace of the spirits' light, or he will send them forever to the unending darkness of the void. This he swears. Quite feelingly, at times.
